Dow replaces Hg catalyst in PU elastomer portfolio 5 years early

The complete suite of re-engineered polyurethane elastomer products required eight different catalyst packages to replace just one that used the mercury-containing catalyst, along with significant collaboration across Dow functions and with customers to ensure the products met the gamut of performance specifications. "The success of the mercury catalyst replacement program sets a new standard for the polyurethane industry and puts our customers ahead of the competition for years to come,” said David Kepler, Executive Vice President, Business Services, Chief Sustainability Officer, Chief Information Officer. "The sustainability and commercial differentiation delivered through these products provide a shining example of Dow's work.” The new Hyperlast and Diprane products ensure that customers have greater supply confidence by using non-mercury catalysts that comply with future REACH requirements today. Additionally, Dow partnered closely with its customers to make the transition ahead of schedule to positively differentiate their products and provide the world with a more sustainable solution
