Diversification of capabilities is a big key to success for custom injection molder Blue Ridge Industries Inc. (BRI), a Winchester, VA-based company that serves the automotive, construction, and consumer markets. The company recently expanded into Additive Manufacturing (AM) with the purchase of an Objet Connex 500 3D printer.
Al Curtis, director of business development for BRI, told PlasticsToday that the company always recommends that its customers get a prototype part made in the design development stage. “This is largely because inevitably when they have a part in hand, they will see something they want to change,” said Curtis. “That would sometimes take a week or longer because we would have to send it out to a service bureau to be made. In today’s environment customers want quick turn on projects, so we believe providing this service will help us in that.”
