Debuting at K: The OPTIMEX 3-Layer Blown Film Line

OPTIMEX 3-layer blown film line with an exceptional cost/performance ratio

At the in-house EXPO at the German engineering company Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) in Lengerich in 2009, the OPTIMEX 3-layer blown film line was presented to the trade for the first time. Since its launch the system has been sold on all continents. At K 2013, an 1800 mm OPTIMEX will be demonstrated producing gusseted stretch hood film at high speed – a product increasingly used for load stability purposes. The 3-layer film is the result of a joint development with Dow Chemical. It combines very good optical characteristics with high load holding power and exceptional puncture resistance, without having to use expensive EVA resins.

The OPTIMEX is characterized by maximum efficiency and productivity. It lends itself to a broad spectrum of 3-layer film applications, such as packaging and automation packaging, carrier bags, heavy-duty sacks, shrink film and shrink and stretch hood products, which can be produced at high outputs. Focused on the 3-layer segment, the OPTIMEX combines proven W&H quality with modest investment costs and an attractive cost/performance ratio.

All components of the OPTIMEX were taken from the proven VAREX family and optimized, such as the MAXICONE C die, which provides low melt volumes creating the ideal conditions for maximum film quality and extremely fast product changeovers. The FILMATIC O multi-purpose winder has been developed for use downstream of OPTIMEX blown film lines and ensures perfect finished rolls for optimum processing on downstream equipment. The modular design of the winder allows it to be tailored to the application range of the OPTIMEX.

Changeovers on the OPTIMEX can be automated using optional modules, including EASY-CHANGE and PROFILE BOOSTER. The reduction in changeover time, energy and raw material use are both economically and environmentally beneficial.

Technical Specifications

The OPTIMEX is available with working widths of 1300, 1600, 1800 and 2200 mm. The 1800 mm system can be supplied with a gusseting unit in the haul-off to produce gusseted film widths up to 2200 or 2600 mm double-flat. Possible extruder combinations are: 60/70/60.30D, 60/90/60.30D and 70/90/70.30D. Die diameters range from 160 to 500 mm. The FILMATIC O can be supplied as a mono or dual winder.
