Plastics processor Portola Packaging Inc. announced its development of a new type of plastic closure for aseptic beverage packages. Roy Robinson, VP of business development at Portola, told PlasticsToday that Portola is working with several brand owners on commercializing the technology, which is suitable for both for both low- and high-acid aseptic beverage packages.
Portola (Naperville, IL) is branding these closures with the name Steri-Shield. The linerless plug closures will be marketed as a replacement for the traditionally used closures, which have thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) or foil liners to achieve seal integrity for these beverages.
