After a challenging 2009, Clariant (Muttenz / Switzerland; www.clariant.com) expects 2010 to be "similarly difficult, CEO Hariolf Kottmann said. Sales of the struggling Swiss speciality chemicals producer fell 18% last year to CHF 6.6 bn (EUR 4.5 bn), while EBITDA pre-exceptionals shrank by 37% to CHF 495m. The net loss totalled CHF 194m, up from CHF 37m in 2008.
Sales of Pigments & Additives deteriorated by 25% to CHF 1.5 bn, with EBITDA pre-exceptionals plunging by 57% to CHF 125m. Sales of Masterbatches declined by 12% to CHF 1.1 bn, EBITDA pre-exceptionals by 14% to CHF 105m.
