Chemtura: Price increase for brominated flame retardants

Chemtura (Middlebury, Connecticut / USA; www.chemtura.com), currently in Chapter 11 insolvency proceedings, has announced a 20% price increase of brominated flame retardants. The hike applies to all regions and will go into effect 1 February 2010. Specifically, the increase will affect the prices of the group's "BA-59P", "CD-75P", "SP-75" and "PH-73FF" grades. The group blamed the increase on rising raw material prices, especially benzene and chlorine.

Chemtura recently entered into a "stalking horse” agreement with SK Capital Partners (New York / USA; www.skcapitalpartners.com) for its PVC additives portfolio after having extended its deadline for emerging from Chapter 11 to mid-2010.
