Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing (CIER) backs UN Sustainable Energy for All

Craig Silvertooth, president of CIER, presented the overarching roofing industry commitment to the High-Level Group on SEFA, which is led by Kandeh Yumkella, Chair of UN-Energy, and Bank of America Chairman Chad Holliday. He  reminded those in attendance, "While construction starts at the bottom, sustainability starts with the roof.”The roofing industry's SEFA commitment includes pledges to promote the RoofPoint program as a tool for utilizing the roof as a platform for both energy efficiency and clean energy, to pursue standardized building energy codes, to educate the marketplace on today's best sustainable construction practices, and to provide training and capacity building at the local, national and international levels. The industry commitment currently is supported by a number of industry associations including PIMA (Polyisocyanate Manufacturers Association) and the SPFA (Spray Polyurethane Foam Association) as well as ERA,CFFA, SPRI, RCMA and the Global Cool Cities Alliance. SEFA is a UN-led initiative to ensure universal access to modern energy services, double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency and double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix by 2030. The High-Level Group has identified buildings, and the roof in particular, as one of seven critical sectoral action areas. The full industry commitment including the individual commitments made by the organizations above will be posted on the SEFA website at www.sustainableenergyforall.org. The Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing is a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC, USA, whose mission is to promote the development and use of environmentally responsible, high performance roof systems and technologies.
