CHINA: KPC Takes Total as Third Partner In Refinery & PC JV with Sinopec

The project, on which construction has begun, involves a 300,000-b/d full conversion refinery that will process Kuwaiti crude and be integrated with a 1-million-t/y ethylene plant.  Completion is expected in 2015. KPC and Sinopec each hold a 50% interest in the venture, but KPC has said it is interested in giving a portion of its interest to a strategic partner. "KPC is pleased to expand its cooperation with Total,” said KPC Chief Executive Farouk Al Zanki.  "Total, with its long experience in the downstream business in China, coupled with know how in refining and petrochemicals operations, will add value to the China project,” he noted.(Syed Rashid Ali, Karachi, Pakistan)
