While medical device manufacturers trim back captive operations, plastics contract manufacturers continue to expand globally. One recent American example is in Massachusetts, where Nypro, a unit of Jabil Circuit, plans to build a 200,000-sq-ft manufacturing plant close to its flagship plant in Clinton, MA.
One new example in Europe is a production plant being planned by Baunform in Endingen, Germany about four miles from its current base in Bahlingen. The new plant will include several cleanrooms. Moldmaking will
expand into the vacated space in Bahlingen. A customer development center in Bahlingen will also be expanded.
"Due to strategic considerations as well as an increased space requirement of the Bahlinger company the owners and managers came to the decision to relocate the division plastics and pharmaceutical production," the company said in an announcement.
