Borealis: Exit from rotomoulding business

Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealis.com) has announced plans to quit the rotomoulding sector at the end of the first quarter, citing a "shrinking end-user market". The polyolefins group said in late November 2009 that it was reviewing options for the business, which for many years has supplied rotational moulding resins under the trade names "Borcene” and "Borplus”. It said the decision to exit reflects "a serious study of the changing market drivers and careful evaluation of future opportunities.”

The market is fragmented and Borealis not a major player, a spokesperson told the newsletter Plastics Information Europe (PIE, Bad Homburg / Germany; www.pieweb.com).
