Biomerics LLC (Salt Lake City), a contract manufacturer and polymer solutions provider for the medical device industry, has introduced an injection molding tool system that enables rapid cavity exchanges without removal of the molding press base. The proprietary Rapid-Adapt system reportedly will allow Biomerics to turn around new designs for customers in as little as two weeks.
The Rapid-Adapt system uses a custom base and cavity design to enable tool standardization of catheters and medical components. The tooling system is available in 1-, 2-, 4-, 8- and 16-cavity drops, and can be applied to prototype manufacturing, bridge tooling and full-scale production, says the company. The rapid cavity exchange feature and an inventory of standard inserts results in significant time savings for customers. "It enables us to provide fast, low-cost tooling solutions for vertically overmolded ISO 594 luers, y and t connectors and junctions as well as horizontally molded custom components and inserts," said Dan Brittingham, VP of Engineering, in a prepared statement.
