BASF inaugurates new Cellasto production site in Shanghai

This new Shanghai site is BASF's third Cellasto facility in Asia Pacific and second in China. It serves to expand the company's global service and production network, totalling six sites throughout the world. [image_0]At the new Shanghai site, BASF will produce Cellasto spring aids and top mounts made of microcellular polyurethane (MPU), specifically designed for the Asia Pacific automotive market.  Through the new production site the company will deliver customized NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) technology and capabilities. "We feel highly confident in the future of the automotive market in Asia Pacific, especially in China, as it has been experiencing a rapid growth in the past several years. It will continue to be the largest motor vehicle producing country in the years to come and BASF is dedicated to working with that industry as a solution provider with its broad portfolio,” explained Dr. Albert Heuser, President, Regional Division Market and Business Development, Asia Pacific, BASF. "As an industry forerunner in NVH solutions out of microcellular polyurethane, the successful expansion of our Cellasto production network will further strengthen our leading market position”, said Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner, Senior Vice President of Polyurethanes in Asia Pacific. "In addition, closer proximity to the manufacturing bases of our global OEM key accounts allows us to serve them with innovative NVH solutions and a reliable local supply from a single global producer.” "Over the years, the need for increasing NVH performance of vehicles has gained importance, requiring sophisticated designs that diminish noises and vibrations under harsh driving conditions. Since NVH plays a major role in the functional development of chassis, power and drive train, Cellasto has become a material of choice for many leading automotive manufacturers to replace conventional rubber solutions due to its increased material performance”, said Maas-Brunner. "The new site is already now the second largest production site in Asia Pacific for Cellasto, and with this new platform in Shanghai we can react quickly and flexibly to increasing market demand and even double the capacity within some months,” said Maas-Brunner.
