BASF: Antwerp cracker restarts at year´s begin

BASF (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf.com) restarted its 1.08m t/y cracker at Antwerp / Belgium at the beginning of the new year. The facility was shut temporarily on 20 December following a fire caused by a leak in a naphtha feed line. The smaller of the group´s two crackers at Ludwigshafen, with a capacity of 220,000 t/y of ethylene (C2) and 140,000 t/y of propylene (C3), which was hit by fire on 23 December, will remain offline for the present.

BASF told the newsletter Plastics Information Europe (PIE, Bad Homburg / Germany; www.pieweb.com) it has no plans to declare force majeure due to the outage.
