Audi and Voith partner to expand use of fiber-reinforced plastics in cars


Audi and Voith GmbH are partnering to develop automated production of fiber-reinforced materials for use in future automotive projects. Aiming for lightweight construction and efficiency, the automaker wants to expand usage of fiber-reinforced polymers that have already been applied in the Audi R8 and the Audi RS 3.

Voith GmbH has used CFRP (carbon fiber-reinforced polymer) in industrial plant design, including lightweight construction components in paper machines or in drive engineering. One area the companies will investigate involves what they call environmentally-compatible fiber composite materials....
