…got a screw loose? Metal substitute specialist with plastic screw production at the “K 2010”

“This could be seen as the ultimate stage of evolution in innovative material utilization”, is the opinion expressed by the joining technology specialist EJOT on using plastics for screws, following the presentation of utilisable samples by BARLOG plastics / BaHsys.
The samples were modelled on the EJOT Delta PT screw concept. Upon completion of the first series of tests, the specialists have confirmed that these joining elements made of HT-PPA Grivory HTV-5H1 from EMS with 50 % fibre glass reinforcement, a thermoplastic building material, are technically safe. The same specialists anticipate “far-reaching potential for lightweight design”.
This screw is about 80 % lighter than its steel counterpart.
But it is still necessary to think of ideas for integrating additional functions. Next to virtually conventional screw models, another type of screw with an additional function will therefore drop out of the running injection moulding machine at the K.
With these screws, interested trade fair visitors will be invited to screw together an assembly destined “for a good purpose”.
The production of these innovative screws, their assembly suitability and special fitness for use in lightweight components will be demonstrated at this year’s “K” from 27th October to 3rd November in Düsseldorf, hall 6 stand D 76 (Joint NRW stand).
